Meanwhile the next symposium entitled "The horse as a partner of care" to Bouvron December 3, 2010 (not to be missed), so here's a summary of what was said regarding the conference of 18 equitherapy June

Happy reading!

Equine mediation in the varied landscape of AAA!

It was noted that the animals including the horse plays an important role in the wide and varied landscape Activities Combining the Animal. In five years of calls for projects to Sommer Foundation ALBRECHT, Boris, director, stresses that "initiatives using horses have increased significantly." In 2010, about 96 cases, 58% involved horses: equestrian leisure 37%, 30% and inserting the equitherapy 33%.

Let us be more precise about horse therapy, the most common term for activities involving the horse having a therapeutic purpose. At this symposium, Isabelle CLAUDE, president of the Association Handi'Cheval , defines it as "the Latin equus, horse and Greek therapeia, care. The translation "take care of the horse" gave "take care of the person with the horse." However, in our society, providing care remains the preserve of doctors, psychologists, nurses, aides, and allied health professionals. Recall that only they are entitled to support patients in their field of expertise. The term covers the Animal Assisted Therapy with or Therapy With Horse (TAC), the terminology used by FENTAC . "

What inventory can be done within the equitherapy institutions infant and child care?

Equine mediation institutions infant and child care!

Jessie ANSORGE-JEUNIER, clinical psychologist and doctoral student in psychology at the University of Toulouse - Le Mirail (Laboratory CERPP), currently writing a doctoral thesis entitled "Equine mediation and mental disability, an inventory to study of clinical evaluation. " This professional has conducted a survey of 600 institutions infant and child care. Institutions that have "played the game" as 26.3% responded: 84% of day hospitals and specialized hospitals with extensive experience in this type of mediation. Indeed, 89% of responding institutions practice for at least 10 years and some 20 years.

Beneficiary children, 90% of responding institutions, less than 11 years and suffering from Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) for 67% to 38% of psychoses, behavioral disorders for 29%, and disorders attachment to 20%.

The therapy sessions are conducted in an equestrian center for 90% of respondents and are supervised by a riding instructor in 82% of projects. These as recalled in his speech rightly Fanny BOUGAUT, responsible for national mission for disability activities to FFE , "are not therapists. But they are destined to become partners of therapists whose horse is not necessarily the specialty. " Collaboration and an equestrian teacher seems more than necessary since only 41.5% of establishments report that at least one of the persons accompanying children received training in horse therapy. Therapist if it is not an expert of the horse must indeed work closely with a professional horse riding that will ensure safety and smooth running of meetings. These two skills are guarantors of good therapy.

A survey reassuring because as concluded Jessie ANSORGE-JEUNIER "Equine mediation seems to be part of a process of care proven in the field for many years, surpassing the simple fad."

Evaluation of the effects of horse therapy on children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD)

Remember, we said in the previous survey that 67% of responding institutions, the children receiving horse therapy sessions suffer from Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD).

Laurence Hameury, child psychiatrist at University Center of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University Hospital of Tours evaluated the effects of age equitherapy to 6 years 5 to 7 years and with PDD. This therapeutic mediation is used in addition to the treatments performed at the center of the University Hospital psychiatry. Every child has a custom project: hospital care, day school part-time and horse therapy sessions of one hour every 15 days.

According to Laurence Hameury, "The results show that the horse therapy is an effective rehabilitation of communication and socialization, as well as cognitive-emotional regulation. It allows appropriate exchanges, cognitive, sensory and motor acquisitions. The child is stable, soothed by the movement of the pony, he asks the équithérapeute in a suitable interaction and realizes the effect of his actions on the pony, great co-therapist also promoting attachment. "

Evidence is that the horse performs perfectly today its new role as a mediator and specifically here therapeutic mediator An element that suggests endless possibilities ... But do not forget, however, that the therapist has a special place. important in this encounter between the child and the animal, it is benevolent, containing "firewall driver", it allows the access to words and symbolic in this three-way relationship!

Sandie thank you for this summary.

What commitment! You rewarded us so much info! Your blog is a breeding ground for me and I'm sorry not to participate a little more, in any case I wanted to commend your dedication. It is hardly prolific in our area and it's probably a fault, so thank you again to fix it.
Have you more information about the new union and especially this new term "équicien" - the way too pretty! -

    soon,

    Joëlle

Hello Joelle and thank you for those words that are fun ... because there are many passages on this website but ... no comments!

Regarding "équicien" I am to inform me and I will offer an interview in some time. For me, without knowing the reasons for its creation, I think this word is added to many terminologies that characterize animal mediation. The list is already long and uninitiated people lose ...

See you soon for more info

Sandie thank you for this info!
For my part, I'm looking for information on the use of the horse with an adolescent population mental difficulty (for writing a dissertation). At an age when many things reshuffle, especially attachment, how the horse may intervene in the relational field of a teenager?

Thank you for this clear account, well beyond my griffouilles taken feverishly at the conference!
It is always a pleasure to read new research bringing a little more scientific credibility to our business.
It is very difficult to conduct methodologically impeccable study (control group, double-blind, isolating the effect of horse therapy compared to the effect of other supported, isolating part of therapy relative to the frame of leisure , etc ...) in the field of mental health, and this is a complaint that we oppose many critics of animal mediation. We still have a lot to prove to justify our personal beliefs of practitioners to the general public and the medical and social community: Fortunately, a huge tip of the hat to all those who are on this difficult path is progressing slowly, then!

And beginning with students and trainees who provide a large amount of data, all too often scattered or lost in the "gray literature".
    Sophie luck for your memory!

For the Union of Professional Equiciens The brochure is available on the homepage of the site Handicheval, and you can contact its President, Jacques Garciaz to syndicat.equicien @ live.fr
Like many, I can not find the perfect word, but recognize the need for this approach and the tremendous potential of this initiative, at a time when our divisions are our first handicap.

Happy holidays to those who have been good and others!
